Just when you arrive in Baguio, you will be greeted by the cool breeze and the scent of pine trees. A totally different site from the metro.

Here is a travel guide for Baguio that is perfect for the weekend.

Eat Breakfast at Cafe by the Ruins

Leave Manila at 2 AM so you arrive in Baguio just in time for breakfast at Cafe by the Ruins Dua. The original Cafe by Ruins was burnt down last April 30. Cafe Dua is the second and only branch left in Baguio. Try their a hearty breakfast meals to fuel up for the long day ahead.

Pick Strawberries at the La Trinidad Strawberry Farm

The La Trinidad Strawberry Farm is one of the few places that plant strawberry in the Philippines. It is located just 30 minutes away from the center of Baguio City.

From November to May, the farm lets it guests experience strawberry picking. But this place is still a must visit when in Baguio because of the strawberry delicacies being sold in the area. Must-tries are their stawberry taho (fresh soft silken tofu with strawberry syrup and sago pearls) and their strawberry ice cream.

The Strawberry Farm can be accessed through Magsaysay Road, just follow the directional signs to Strawberry farm along the road.

Stop by the Colors of STOBOSA

You will pass by the Colors of STOBOSA mural art to and from La Trinidad Strawberry Farm. It is located along Magsaysay road. This mural project, STOBOSA, was made by by Tam-Awan Village Artists, Jordan Mang-osan, Clinton Aniversaryo, Ged Alangui, and Jenny Lorenzo with the help from the Department of Tourism and the Cordillera Administrative Region as part of their RevBloom (revitalize and bloom) campaign and was named after the three sitios of Stonehill, Botiwtiw, and Sadjap.

Shop for works of Cordilleran and Philippine Authors at Mt. Cloud Bookshop

This cozy bookshop is located right next door to Hill Station and Casa Vallejo. It is home to both popular reads and rare finds. Although the special thing about this bookshop is their rich selection of works made by independent authors and small publishing houses. They also dedicated a special section for works featuring North Luzon and works of writers who have lived in Baguio.

Try Authentic Cordilleran Cuisine at Café Yagam

Baguio is also known for its diverse dining scene. But one should not leave Baguio without trying it’s local cuisine and of course it’s local coffee, and the place to try these out is in Cafe Yagam.

Order their special pinikpikan, a smoky chicken stew with “etag” or Cordilleran salted cured meat. The perfect meal to warm your bellies on a windy afternoon.

Taste Local Beers at Baguio Craft Brewery

Baguio Craft Brewery has the largest selection of local draft beers in the Philippines. It has over 50 brews and 21 craft beers on tap. It is the first and only craft brewery in Baguio City.

If you are overwhelmed by the selection and don’t know what to choose, get their tasting tray (6 glasses of craft beer) at PHP450.00 (USD9.00). Baguio Craft Brewery doesn’t just serve amazing beers they also pair it with good food. Their menu is filled with comfort dishes and traditional Filipino pub favorites with a twist.

Enjoy late night conversations at Café Sapore

This hidden gem in Baguio is the perfect place to take the people close to you for intimate late night conversations over good coffee and a view of the city.

Hertz Tip: Café Sapore has various supplies of beans that they personally roast. If you want specific beans roasted just the way you want it for your daily morning coffee back home,  call in advance so they can have it prepared just in time for your visit. Or you are not really specific about your coffee but you want to learn more, look for Sir Bernard the café owner, he surely knows his thing and he is delighted to be able to share his passion.

Hike to Mount Kalugong Cultural Village and Ecology Park

Atop Mount Kalugong is a cultural village and ecology park. Here, you can stay and lounge in traditional cottages, you can hike up further to the peak of the mountain to enjoy breathtaking views of the city, and/or be surprised by a charming café. Drive your car until the end of the road and then go on your feet and follow these signs towards the top.

You will be greeted by these traditional cottages that you can rent out for PHP800.00 for 24 hours.

Head to the cottage area and you can find a trail going to the part of the mountain with amazing views. Come in your active wear and proper trekking shoes because the trail can be slippery. At the end of the trail is a small but charming café called Mt. Kalugong Kape-An.

Order their Iced Salted Caramel Latte and their carrot cake, it’s the perfect reward after a 45-minute hike.

Hertz Tip: You can also go straight to this café from the jump off point through makeshift stairs. Just ask the locals.

Oh, and besides the coffee and the food, the café has a balcony where you can see this view!

Mount Kalugong Cultural Villages and Eco Park is located in Barangay Tawang, La Trinidad, Benguet. You may contact them at 0949 898 0328. They are open from 4:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The Kape-an is open from (9:00 AM to 6:00 PM).

Indulge in a Greek feast at Lemon and Olives

Lemon and Olives used to be an old home that was turned into a restaurant. The interiors are modern rustic and extra homey. They also have an al fresco dining that offers a beautiful view of the property.

Their bestsellers: the Souvlaki Plate, Chicken Kebab and the Poikilia. Truly a Greek Feast.

Discover this cafe by the river

Tucked in Ambayao Road is Camp Riverside, an accommodations with four tiny loft houses and a cafe, Cafe Orilla. The cafe is open to non-guests. The cafe and the camp is located beside a river that fills with fog during some days thus a calming view.

Try their Coffee Beer for your caffeine and booze fix.
